Chin Augmentation Surgery

New advancements have been made in chin augmentation including shapes and textured surfaces, and more biocompatible implants. The implants are usually made of dimethalpolysiloxane which is a silicone compound. The best options for you will be discussed carefully with you at your visit.

What to expect from the consultation: During this visit you should expect to sit at length with your doctor and discuss your goals for surgery. It is important to be informative about:

  • Past surgeries
  • Past and current medical conditions
  • Any medications and vitamins you are currently taking
  • Any and all supplement you are using
  • Allergies to drugs, foods, dyes and rubber
How the surgery is performed: The procedure is frequently done in conjunction with a facelift or other facial surgery, but may be done as an isolated operation. It is usually done under a general anesthesia in an outpatient facility; the procedure takes about one hour to perform. There are different approaches to insertion of the implant which one is best for you will be determined at the time of visit with you doctor.

What to expect after the surgery: During the first week after surgery you will expect different symptoms such a swelling, bruising and discomfort. It is not uncommon for there to be some temporary numbness in the lip or weakness of the smile. This is usually a result of inflammation and subsides within one to three weeks. After two weeks you may resume normal activities.
