Gynecomastia

A condition in which, men have breasts and is more common than you may think. Gynecomastia is both breast tissue and fat tissue located in the breast area on men. Men are often times embarrassed by this condition but treatment is available with very little down time.

What to expect from the consultation: During your visit with your surgeon you will sit and discuss the goals of the surgery and the plan for surgery. It is important that you are informative with your surgeon about the following:

  • Past surgeries
  • Past and current medical conditions
  • Any medications and vitamins you are currently taking
  • Any and all supplement you are using
  • Allergies to drugs, foods, dyes and rubber
How the surgery is performed: Gynecomastia is performed much like a mastectomy. But with limited incision sites and scarring. Often times liposuction is necessary to achieve contour of the chest. Incision sites are usually around the areola and are camouflaged.

What to expect after the surgery: You can expect some soreness and discomfort. Your chest may be wrapped in bandages for a day or so. Your activity should be limited during this time and weight lifting restrictions are enforced. After the first week you can start to resume somewhat normal activities. Exercising and working out canŐt be resumed until three to four weeks.

Occasionally insurance companies will cover this surgery. We encourage you to check with your insurance but when you come in to our office we also will check for you.
