A condition in which men have breasts and is more common than one might think. Gynecomastia is both breast tissue and fat tissue located in the breast area on men. Men are often embarrassed by this condition but treatment is available with very little down time.
During your visit with your surgeon you will sit and discuss your goals for the surgery and the plan for surgery. It is important that you are informative with your surgeon about the following:
Gynecomastia is performed much like a mastectomy, but with limited incision sites and scarring. Often, liposuction is necessary to achieve a pleasing contour to the chest. Incision sites are usually around the areola and are camouflaged.
You can expect some soreness and discomfort. Your chest may be wrapped in bandages for a day or so. Your activity should be limited during this time and make sure that weight-lifting restrictions are enforced. After the first week you can start to resume somewhat normal activities. Exercising and working out cannot be resumed for three to four weeks.
Occasionally insurance companies will cover this surgery. We encourage you to check with your insurance company, but when you come in to our office we also will check for you.
